Who, what, where
The person behind this site is also the person behind the loom, Cally Booker. I am a sole trader providing workshops and one-to-one tuition for handweavers.
I am based in Dundee and you can see the address of my studio down there in the bottom left corner of the page. Please use this contact form to get hold of me by email.
Dundee is in Scotland, so these terms of use and your use of the website shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Scotland.
Respecting your privacy
If you would like the full glory of my privacy policy you can find it here. But if that is too much information, then please just be assured that I take good care of your personal data and only use it as you intend for me to use it, whether that is to provide a workshop or reply to an email.
Online courses
A Weaving Space Online course is one which offers one or more of the following:
- Access to teaching materials and resources delivered through our online platform on Teachery
- Access to the Weaving Space Online community hub hosted on Circle
- Live sessions delivered online
Please make sure you have read the individual course description so that you know (i) which of these benefits you are enrolling for and the duration of those benefits and (ii) whether the course is suitable for your skill level and weaving equipment.
When you book for yourself
Payment in full is required at the time of booking.
Cooling-off period
When you book an online course you have the right to change your mind and cancel within 14 days of making your booking. Please contact me as soon as possible if you wish to exercise your right to cancel.
If you book very close to the start date of the course, and it has already begun when you decide to cancel, then you can still do so. However, your refund will be reduced to reflect any services or materials you have already received.
After the cooling-off period
If you decide to cancel after the 14-day cooling off period, then any refund will reflect costs already incurred, proximity to the course start date and other relevant considerations. The main driver of cancellation costs is the additional work required to re-advertise and re-fill a vacant place, and the closer we are to start of the class, the more challenging that can be.
Specific deadlines and refund amounts will be identified below for each class when it is offered, but in general refunds are likely to be
- up to eight weeks before the class start date: full refund less a £10 admin fee
- from eight weeks up to four weeks before the class start date: refund 70% of class cost
- within four weeks of the class start date: refund 50% of class cost
- within one week of the class start date: no refund
As an alternative to cancellation, it may be possible to transfer your booking to another date (subject to availability). Please contact me as soon as possible to arrange this.
Digital products are an exception
Some Weaving Space course materials, such as downloadable files or resource packs, are digital products. When you purchase a digital product and access that material immediately, the cooling-off period does not apply. By consenting to download or access a digital product before 14 days have elapsed you will waive your statutory right to cancel your order.
However, if you are not fully satisfied with your purchase, please let me know! My purpose is to provide weavers with materials that add value to their weaving practice and that bring them joy. I will do my utmost to address any issues or concerns that you may have.
When you book for someone else
If you book a course as a gift for someone else, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of the person for whom you are making the booking. Please make sure you have their permission to share this information with me.
The cancellation rights described above still apply.
An e-gift certificate will be sent to you to share with the recipient of the course.
Waiting list policy
I run online workshops several times a year between September and May. Booking normally opens about six months in advance. Once the scheduled workshops are full, you will be able to add your name to a waiting list in order to be notified (i) if any last minute places become available and (ii) when the next workshop is scheduled.
Joining the waiting list gives you access to an early booking period which is not open to the public. You will be notified in advance of the workshop details and the date when booking opens, and on that date will be sent a private link through which you can book.
Please note that being on the waiting list does not guarantee you a place in any particular workshop, and the priority booking period will operate on a first-come first-served basis.
I aim to keep the waiting list from getting too long, and may close it in advance of the priority booking period if I judge it sensible to do so.
Once people on the waiting list have had a few days to book, any remaining spaces will be published openly on the Classes page.
Don’t you offer places in the order in which people sign up to the waiting list?
Having experimented with many different waiting list models, I have learned that it is not practical to do this. The data show that (i) only about 50% of the people on the waiting list will choose to book a place and (ii) the people who have signed up most recently are the most likely to book. I aim to take an approach which gives everyone a reasonable opportunity to participate if they choose to do so, and is also feasible for me to administer alongside the core work of weaving and teaching.
If I don’t book a place, will I stay on the waiting list?
At the end of the priority booking period, I will invite those who have not booked to indicate that they would like to stay on the waiting list for next time. Your details will not be carried forward automatically, because I want to avoid the situation where the waiting list becomes full of people who are not realistically intending to take the workshop (see point (ii) in the paragraph above).
In-person courses at the Weaving Space
When you book for yourself
Payment in full is required at the time of booking.
If you find that you need to cancel a booking, then please contact me as soon as possible. It is important to note that places booked at in-person workshops are like theatre or concert tickets, and are not subject to the same cancellation rights as online courses.
If you cancel up to a 28 days before the class then you will receive a 50% refund. If you cancel less than 28 days before the class, any refund will be at my discretion. If there are future dates available for the same or an alternative class, it may be possible to arrange a transfer of your booking.
When you book for someone else
Gift certificates are available for any day school. Within the UK postage of the gift certificate (either to you or direct to the gift recipient) is free. There is a small flat rate charge for sending a gift certificate anywhere overseas.
If you have received a gift certificate but cannot attend on the date booked, please contact me as soon as possible. If you contact me at least 28 days before the class then your gift certificate can be transferred to another date (subject to availability).
General
A minimum of two students is required for an in-person workshop to go ahead.
In the event that a workshop is cancelled by me, all registered students will receive a full refund.
Mentoring and bespoke tuition
A minimum 50% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, with the balance due 28 days before the session. If you have to cancel or amend your booking, please contact me as soon as possible. For cancellations made more than 28 days before the scheduled session, any fees paid over and above the deposit will be refunded.
When there isn’t a global pandemic, it is vanishingly rare that I need to cancel a booking. However, if that becomes unavoidable you will, of course, receive a full refund.
Travel and other costs
Please note that I cannot be responsible for any outlays such as non-refundable travel costs that you may make in connection with your booking, and therefore recommend that you take out appropriate insurance cover.
And finally…
Let’s remember that we are all individual humans. I am not a corporation, I’m a person running a small weaving business. You’re a person who is here because you want to learn to weave. Ultimately, we both want the same thing: for you to have an enjoyable experience while developing your weaving skills and knowledge. If there’s a problem, speak to me about it.
